In order to promote new films, most studios release dozens of trailer, each featuring incrementally less new footage than the last. But in the ramp-up to the release of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, 20th Century Fox have teamed up with Vice in order to release three short films that fill in the 10-year time gap since Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
The result is three very different movies that deal with humans living in a world ravaged by disease.
This first one is set one year into the Simian Flu epidemic. It centres on a father and daughter fending for themselves in a crumbling society.
The second one takes place five years later. It follows an orphaned teenage girl foraging for supplies. For those of you who play video games, it feels a bit like The Last of Us, which is no bad thing.
And finally, the most ambitious of the three shorts is set over a span of ten years. Instead of following a single character, it tracks a shotgun as it passes between a string of ill-fated humans.
This is a fantastic little campaign that has allowed upcoming film-makers to show off their talent. As a piece of promotional material, it’s also a lot more interesting than your usual spoiler-ific trailers.
We heartily approve!
