In this first teaser for the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, we discover that a lot has changed since the end of 2010’s surprise hit. If you don’t recall, the mid-credits sequence suggest that humanity was on the cusp of a man-made viral epidemic. Meanwhile, a band of hyper-intelligent apes (led by Andy Serkis’ Caesar) had escaped from their human captor and taken to the forests of California.
In Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, we find that ten years have since passed. The human race has been decimated by plague andcivil war; the remaining survivors now share the broken planet with Caesar’s ever-growing hoard.
Only Serkis remains from the original cast, with the humansnow being represented by a decent ensemble that includes Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Gary Oldman. Behind the camera this time is director Matt Reeves, the former Abrams protegee whose last two films were the genre hits Let Me In and Cloverfield.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is in cinemas 17 July 2014
