Amongst the most highly anticipated movies previewed at this past weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con was the long-awaiting Mad Max sequel with Tom Hardy, after months of being teased with still images of Hardy and his co-star Charlize Theron, fans got a first real look at Mad Max: Fury Road.

Check it out!

First of all, Max is still Australian! Tom Hardy seems to be doing a pretty decent approximation of early-80s Mel Gibson. Back from the original trilogy are the sparsely beautiful shots of the Australian outback and the destructive car chases.

For fans who couldn’t get enough, there were also these new character posters:

The film is being directed by Aussie George Miller, who along with creating the Mad Max series has also directed a number of eclectic movies. Chief among them: The Witches of Eastwick, Babe: Pig in the City and Happy Feet (the dancing penguin cartoon)!

What do you think? Will Fury Road be more like The Road Warrior or Beyond Thunderdome? Let us know in the comments below.

Mad Max: Fury Road will be in cinemas May 2015
