‘Silicon Valley’: The new comedy from the creator of ‘Office Space’

Silicon Valley

In his cult comedy Office Space, writer/director Mike Judge perfectly skewered the soul-draining culture of a tech company in the 1990s. Cut to 2014 and we’re now in an era when the smartphone developers behind WhatsApp have received billions for a buyout. Northern California’s latest gold rush is in full swing and the prospectors in question are now the geeks who were socially marginalised back at school.

Silicon Valley is about one such group of geeks.

Based on Judge’s own experiences as a tech engineer back in the late 80s, Silicon Valley stars a group of relatively unknown actors: TJ Miller (Yogi Bear, Cloverfield), Zach Woods (The US Office), stand-up Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr (Freaks and Geeks) and Thomas Middlemitch.

Set to debut later this year on HBO in the states, Silicon Valley will also get an airing at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas (should you happen to find yourself in that part of the world). From just this trailer alone, we’d have to put this at the top of our ‘Most Anticipated TV Shows’ list.
