After Marvel made waves a few weeks back by announcing that they were parting ways with Edgar Wright for their upcoming adaptation of Ant-Man, the speculation machine has been working overtime.

For a short time, it seemed that Anchorman director¬†Adam McKay was the frontrunner for the job as director. However, soon after a meeting with Marvel Studios top brass, McKay withdrew himself from competition. He’s quite a busy man, you see.

However, this past weekend, it was announced that Marvel arrived on their candidate: Peyton Reed.

Just looking a quick look at Reed’s IMDb page will reveal some less-than-illustrious credits: Jim Carrey’s Yes Man, and the Vince Vaughn film The Break Up.

However, if you dig a little deeper, you can also see some serious alternative comedy TV credentials like Mr Show and Upright Citizens Brigade (which starred a young Amy Poehler). Working with a version of Wright and Joe Cornish’ screenplay, Reed could still deliver something special.

Ant-Man is still due for a release in July 2015
