Despite what you might think, most actors don’t perform their own stunts. Despite the fact they’re all executed in tightly controlled conditions, less physical actors can’t be relied on to pull off a stunt first time. Also, if he or she were to get injured, it would put some serious strain on an already tight production schedule. Tom Cruise famously does most of his stunt work, the most recent example being the climbing scenes on the Burj Khalifa in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Jackie Chan also insists on doing his own stunts, a policy that’s resulted in dozens of serious injuries over his career.
Now there’s another actor you can add to that list: Channing Tatum.
Tatum shows off his action star chops in White House Down, this week’s action-packed new release. He plays a Washington DC cop who’s trapped inside the White House when a group of mercenaries capture it by force. With the lives of his daughter and the President on the line, he’s forced to rely on his wits and training to defeat a small army. With his background in athletics, dance and martial arts, Tatum has built a reputation as a strong physical performer (on top of his dramatic and comedic chops).
