Without question, 2011′s The Raid was the best pure-action film in years.
Shot in Indonesia by writer-director Gareth Evans, it told a simple story of a SWAT team attempting to assail a tower block full of criminals to reach a drug kingpin’s office on the top floor. On the journey up, there is a lot of gun play, thrilling hand-to-hand fights and moments of white-knuckle tension.
Taking place directly after the events of the first film, the sequel finds family man and young policeman Iko Uwais in prison for reasons unknown. Has he been wrongfully imprisoned or is he working undercover for the cops? Either way, it’s going to be a messy, action-packed affair.
The Raid 2: Berandal will open in 2014
