10 Wonderful and Terrifying Disney Movie Monsters

Tag: blinkboxblinkbox @ 11:25 am

To mark the release of Monsters University at blinkbox, we’ve sifted through the Disney back-catalogue and picked our 10 favourite monsters from over 75 years of movie history! If you disagree with any of our choices: take a look at our Disney Monster Movies Collection and tell us who you would have picked instead!

1. Mushu from Mulan

MushuA helpful creature with the voice of Eddie Murphy and a talent for cracking wise! No, it’s not Donkey from Shrek – it’s Mushu, the tiny red dragon from Mulan!

2. Ursula from The Little Mermaid

Like a payday moneylender, Ursula can help you make your dreams come true. It will, however, come at an enormous cost with great risk for further loss. So when Ariel decides she wants to become a human, Ursula is more than happy to help out – with a few minor conditions.

3. The Mutant Toys from Toy Story

Dismembered and reassembled in random order, the inhabitants of Sid’s toy chest are a veritable Island of Doctor Moreau’s Playthings. But they’re really nice guys once you get to know them.

4. Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty

When the wicked witch Maleficent gate-crashed a royal christening and cursed the baby to die, she showed the kind of poor social form that got her disinvited in the first place. Not cool.

5. Madam Mim from The Sword in the Stone

She might look like a silly old crone, but this witch can transform herself into all sorts of animals at will: cats, rhinos, alligators, even dragons!

6. Genie Jafar from Aladdin

Genies are the most powerful creatures on Earth — there’s no doubting that. But the one thing that Jafar forgets to consider before Robin Williams grants him his final wish: all Genies are slaves to their lamps. Stupid Jafar.

7. Bruce the Great White from Finding Nemo

Like a lot of monsters in the Disney canon, Bruce isn’t really that evil. Nature made him a mindless killing machine and he does his best not to live up to the stereotype. As he constantly reminds himself: “fish are friends, not food”.

8. Omnidroid v.10 from The Incredibles

Whereas old-school Disney villains might curse you or keep you locked in a dungeon, the Omnidroid has actually killed people; stone cold murdered them. Now THAT is monstrous.

9. & 10. Sulley and Mike from Monsters, Inc

It’s easy to misunderstand them, when Mike and Sully are not busy terrifying children, they’re just a couple of BFFs who like nothing more than to chill out. As Wreck-It Ralph learned: just because you’re a bad guy, doesn’t mean you’re a bad guy.
