Breaking a 77 year curse, Andy Murray become the first British player to win the Mens Singles title at Wimbledon yesterday since Fred Perry in 1936. In the year’s most-watch television event, the Scot displayed a consistency and confidence that had eluded him for many years, overpowering World #1 Novak Djokovic in three straight sets.
It was yet another moment where reality mimicked art, with Andy Murray basically re-creating the plot of the Paul Bettany/Kirsten Dunst classic Wimbledon. Except in this version, the Jon Favreau part was played by the Czech chucklemeister Ivan Lendl.
